I currently have a closet with one recessed panel that is full of phone and cable lines. Below it (about 2') the builder ran the security system prewires into a single gang box. What I'd like to do is order a LIN Series 140 enclosure and mount it recessed in place of the single-gang box for the security system panel. However, we're moved in now (drywall is up) and I wasn't sure if there would be a problem trying to recess something like the 140 series now? The spec sheet for it seems to imply it should be surface mounted, but I was trying to avoid surface mounting.

Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome :).

Hi Doug,

I just emailed this information to you as well.

The LIN140 boxes are designed for either surface or flush mounting. Leviton recommends that you use a molly (wall anchor) to mount to the drywall, I recommend using the stud on one side, and mollies on the other.

Right, I was mostly wanting to cut out a hole in the drywall and recess the enclosure in the wall so that the front would be flush with the wall. I believe it has holes in the sides where you'd normally screw it into the side of a stud (pre-drywall). I was just wondering if it was possible to do this same thing post-drywall?

My understanding of their post-drywall mounting recommendation was to mount it outside of the drywall using anchors that attach to the back of the enclosure -- not what I was wanting to do :).

Sorry I missed your reply, Leviton recommends the install prior to drywall. I have definitely heard of innovative installers who were able to mount the panel post drywall, the hardship is feeding the wiring from inside the wall into the box...etc.
