| I am a newbie to home automation, so this question is probably simple. I have a screen porch I am closing in. It has four wall-mounted lights, each with a separate and discrete switch. I would like to be able to operate (& dim) all four lights (in unison) from any of the four switch locations. Any advise? Thanks in advance... |

| Are the 4 switches currently wired to control all 4 lights in unison? |

This is how I would do it.I would use four xpdf modules and install one behind each light fixture.Set all the codes the same. Then use 4 plwo1-x
x-10 switchs inplace of each switch.Set those switchs the same as the module code.It may be posible to use one module and control all the lights but you would have to know more about wiring to know if you can do it so the simplest way would be the way I explained though more costly because of the extra modules. |

Unfortunately the PLW01 does not transmit an X10 signal, it is a receiver switch.
Using the XPDF for dimming lights you would then use an XPT base and depending on your preferences, one of the faceplates to go with it. the XP2DX is an on/off and bright dim for one house code, which would mean each location would transmit either on/off or bright dim commands to the XPDF.

If however the switches are currently run as a 3 way circuit (all switches are wired together to be used for the one light) you can simply use an XPD3 (master switch) and 3 XPSS (slave switches). Each will control the light and you also can use an X10 remote to control the lights.

Thanks to all for the fast replies. The four lights are not wired together. They are setup with discrete 2-way switches, and do not operate together.
After reading your replies, it occurred to me that there might be a more reasonable setup option: I could have just one of the light switches with the ability to control (on/off/dim) all four lights. The other three switches could be setup to just control (on/off) its own light.
As a third option, I could just have one switch operate all four lights (on/off/dim), with the other three switches bypassed.
Would these arrangements be easier to setup? Thanks... |
