Hi!

I' ve just realized I could do something that would really be cool:

Let' s say you are watching a DVD in your home theater and the phone rings. It would be nice to have the DVD player/media center automatically pause and a lamp above the phone would light for you to pickup the call.

- Is there any automation software that can trigger events when the phone rings?

The TR16A will send an X10 ON and X10 OFF signal for each ring. The unit code sent when the phone is ringing will be the 3rd digit of the security code programmed on the TR16A (see the manual for details). Note that it doesn't keep the lamp on, just flashes it in sync with the ringing phones.

So, to turn on your lamp, and keep it on. You would need to build a customized system (involving a relay, power supply, and possibly a PowerFlasher from X10 ). I can work out all these details if you are interested, or email tech@smarthomeusa.com and Ian from technical support can iron out all the details for you.

To pause your DVD, the system will also need to be custom, as there is no turn-key solution available. You would need to research the ocelot IR system, which can receive an input and send out a learned IR signal. There are many maunals available for the system on that page, which will give you a general idea of what you need to do.
