I own a (circa 1900) 2 family brick home in Bklyn, NY. My heating system is Nat Gas fired, single pipe stea, syatem. Currently the Thermostat which controls the boiler resides on the 2nd floor. I would like to monitor the temp on the 2nd floor and control the heat from the first. There's no AC (window units only) to control.

Can anyone recommend a unit which I could use with the existing wiring and maybe (i'm hopeful) network everything through my PC?

You could run an 8051 temperature sensor on the second floor to an 8570 thermostat on the first floor, the sensor overrides the local temperature sensor and the thermostat has some excellent features.

The 8051 is very small, and can be painted to match the area it is mounted.
