Hello
I have a SBV5120 Motorola modem...and I'm trying to connect my wireless router Dl-524. Although, the configuration doen't work.
I know if I use DHCP configuration in Dl-524, will not work, 'cause SBV5120 works with bridge functions...right? And my ADSL service, doesn't need a user and login, because of the kind of connection...(TV Cable). Then, I cannot use PPPoE too...
I'm really lost, and I don't know what more can I do to solve it...
Could you please help me???
Thanks a lot |

Well this question doesn't have much to do with structured wiring, now does it?
But I'll answer you anyway, since you seem to be kind of clueless
Your D-Link router should indeed be configured to use DHCP. This should be setup by default for the WAN side of your router (which connects to your motorola surfboard modem). You should not have to do anything to get this working. You are correct when you say you should NOT use PPPoE.
You should also use DHCP for the LAN side of your router, unless you are knowledged enough to set up static IP's for all of your computers. To make things simple, turn on DHCP and let the router hand out IP addresses by itself.
There is no briding involved when setting up a simple NAT network with a cable modem. The IP that is gotten from your modem will be held as your routers address. Then all your computers will be handed "internal" addresses starting with 192.168.1.x or the like.
Let me know if you need anything clarified. |
