I'm planning on replacing my old honeywell heat pump thermostat with a TH144 (and phone remote interface) so that I can turn on my heating system via a phone call. I have read the TH144 installation guide to see what wiring changes I'll need to make, but my current manual thermostat seems to have a missing connection..... there are only 4 wires connecting to: W2 (stage 2 heat) G (fan) R (power) and Y (cooling).... there is no connection for W1 (stage 1 heat). Question: will the new TH144 work without a connection to W1 when the instructions say it is required ?

Also..... Sad but true additional fact: You can not switch between a/c and heat by using the thermostat. When I bought the house, the owner told me I needed to remove the reversing plug in the compressor unit when I wanted a/c, and to plug it back in when I wanted heat. I have been doing this each year to switch. Is the lack of functionality due to the absense of that W1 connection ?
