I am new to home automation, and while im not quite ready to buy, i would like to understand how the various products work.
First of all: X10. I think its a way of home automation, using existing wiring to send signals to different electrical devices, but im not sure. Could someone please provide a basic description of what X10 exactly is, how it works, and what would be needed for an X10 setup. How would wall sockets be "X10ized", and how does the X10 controller know what to control?
Any and all help would be appreciated.
Thanks[/quote] |

X10 simply sends message packets on your existing wiring to tell electrical outlets, switches or modules to turn on, off, bright, dim and in some devices more advanced scene control features.
To X10ize devices, you would simply replace the existing device with an X10 device. For example, a standard incadescant light circuit (your front door light) can be replaced with an X10 light switch, the XPD3. This switch will now respond to X10 commands. |

I'm Another noobie, with a problem. I have several Lightpost the kind with three globes at the top, well i have three in my back yard and one as far away as 100 ft the two are operated by one switch and the third by another switch. The switches are located at or near the location of each light post. I would like to walk out my back door and turn these lights on and off all or one at a time with a remote. It would be great if I could expand this to other lights, pool lights etc. Thanks for the help.

Hey Gary,
I heard your message as well. This is a simple use of Fixture Modules (XPFM for non-dimming, and XPDF for dimming)
There are multiple remote control solutions, depending on how many devices you are looking to control, and the distance from the receivers themselves. Send me an email, or call me between 8am and 6pm EST. |
