|
|
| I am considering purchasing the Elk system. I have some experience running network cable and would like to get a feel for how difficult it would be to install. Are there any pics or guides out there that could give me an idea of how sensors and so-on are attached? Thanks much. |

There is a basic layout for the ELK here:

Then there is specific information on wiring keypads here:

Ethernet interface:

Standard wired sensors just connect with light gauge single twisted pair. |

Thanks for the info. Do you have any reference to pics of installed sensors? I understand the wiring diagrams but I would like to see how various sensors actually look when installed. |

I found a link to an excellent how to guide. It's for an older GE panel, but the sensors would be the same.
There are pictures of both the magnet surface mount sensors as well as the cylinder styled hidden sensors.

| Thanks for the link, Ralph. Please excuse the newbie questions, but for an existing house retrofit would I use this as opposed to this ? The cylindrical type looks like it would be next to impossible to install without cutting drywall. |

You can actually use either sensor for a retrofit as long as you can get wiring to the sensors. Both of the sensors you indicated need to be wired.
There are wireless sensors available if you are unable to get wiring to some locations.
Elk uses Caddx wireless products on their panel, so you can choose any of the wireless sensors you see here.
