Looking to build my new home with some smart home technology. I have read "Smart Homes for Dummies and gained some insight. I have a background as a telecommunication electrician, and will be doing all my own low voltage work. I plan to run 3/4" stubs to 1900 boxes and then cable as I need phone, data, CATV, a/v for surround, etc.

I need help in knowing what else I can do on the pre wiring for security, whole house a/v (russsound), and X10/UPB for a nice compliment to the other work I know how to do already. Planning on a late May early June window for my work.

Thanks,

Bruce

Hi Bruce, I believe I also received an e-mail from your this morning so I will paste the same answer here, we can get into more specifics in email if needed.

For Russound, you can go A-Bus or their CA series.

A-Bus requires Cat5 from the hub to the keypad and speaker wire from the keypad to the speakers.

CA series require Cat5 and speaker wire from the hub to the keypads and speakers.

A-Bus uses amplified keypads and CA uses an amplifier and a audio matrix controller.

For X10 or UPB you don't have to wire your outlets, switches or loads differently. The only difference would be a phase coupler in the main panel so that signal will definitely get from phase a to phase b.

If you are considering UPB, we recently added a small starter kit to our website with a significant savings on cost. This might be a good time to take advantage of an early season sale to get yourself started.
