Equipment: Motorola HMGW1070
Software: 2.5.12 & 2.5.14
PC: Dell D620
I have tried every suggestion in this topic and I can still not get the HMGW1070 to be recognized during the software installation. I purchased this almost two years ago, and in the process of moving the base station from one PC to another, the new installation would not work. I believe that one of the key issues is that on the original PC I performed a software upgrade that also appeared to have updated the firmware on the actual base station hardware. I don't recall the version of the upgrade, but the original software came from a CD entitled "HMEZ1000" created 8/10/2004 and the upgrade came via the Software Update Check on-line. After that upgrade, the Base Station still worked with the original computer, but when I tried a fresh install on 3 different virgin computers with the original CD, it did not take. It has not worked with any of the builds I've obtained through this forum or from Xanboo. Xanboo even sent an OEM CD with the latest software.
QUESTION: Is there a way to reset the firmware to factory original? Could there be another solution? |

I'm not sure what product the HMGW1070 is .. a google search leads me to believe it is a very old part.
I'm surprised you got the HMEZ1000 software to work with your HMGW at all!
Your best bet would be to contact Motorola/Xanboo directly and ask if they have any compatible software for your obsolete system (I am PMing you Xanboo/Motorola's contact information)
For the record, the latest and greatest system is the X1000 (XG1000). The HMEZ2000 is second, which is also about to be obsoleted. |

Mksman was correct.
I have been playing around with the HMGW1070 for a couple of days.
It looks like there was a firmware update for the HMGW1070 at about revision 2.5.14.
This changed the USB HardwareId for the device.
When you try to reinstall the device on a different computer it is impossible if you flashed the firmware on 2.5.14.
You need to start at 2.5.12 where the install does not recognize the device because the USB HardwareId is different from the origional.
You cannot start at 2.5.14 because it needs a previous clean install to work from.
I tried copying the drivers from 2.5.14 during a 2.5.12 install. It does install the drivers correctly, but there is a check on the driver version that stops the software from installing.
It seems that whoever wrote the software did not think that someone would have to re-install the software on a different computer.

Yeah, I'm stuck too.
I have a new, out of the box HMGW1070 and installed the software that came on the CD. It worked, but the software updater didn't... so of course I googled it and found this page:
http://circuithijacker.blogspot.com/2009/03/hmgw1070-motorola-home-monitoring.html , Which shows how to upgrade the software.
I made the mistake of following those instructions.
Upgrading from 2.5.15 to 2.6.17 flashed the firmware, then I was asked for the drivers... which it couldn't find anywhere and then the upgrade failed.
I used "Universal Extractor" to see if the drivers were included somewhere in any of the upgrades, but there were none...
Sometimes companies break their products on purpose to get their customer base to shell out cash for newer products. I think this was a planned obsolescence upgrade... or something...
Unless someone has this working and can package the drivers for the rest of us, we're all screwed...
I should have been happy with the version that came with the CD... it at least worked! |

Hi Stuck,
Thank you for providing this information.
I agree with you on the "intentional breaking" of the product by Xanboo. I also was disheartened when the company announced they are discontinuing the USB product. I also believe it is only so they can charge for the (now required) service on the gateway.
I will contact the manufacturer on your behalf. MAYBE they do have a version of the software compatible with your new firmware version.
(I did not know it updated the firmware- that explains a lot of the problems we've had with the system). |

Any news?
Are there people out there using a HMGW1070 with the firmware update?
If so, would it be possible for them to zip up the drivers they're using?
That's all we need!
Thanks! |

After not being able to install MHS_2_5_12. I installed the HomeSight2.6.18.exe Full install:
http://www.smarthomeusa.com/Common/motorola-homesight/HomeSight2.6.18.exe 65M
With this I was able to install the drivers.
I tried to run the setup with a no go. Without rebooting I ran the Motorolahomesight_2_6_18_Update_Win2KXPVista.exe 26M
and rebooted the pc.
Started the motorola Home site and followed the setup. Now it works
just fine now.
If anyone is in need of the Motorolahomesight_2_6_18_Update_Win2KXPVista.exe.

Hope it helps as I figured it was a lost cause for a long time now. |

Dude! You've helped me out a ton!
I couldn't get the install to work, so I had to extract the HomeSight2.6.18.exe to gain access to the base station's USB drivers. For some reason, the installation didn't find the device and I had to go into the device manager to install the drivers for the "? Unknown Devices ? " manually. After that, I ran the EXE again and the software installed and I was finally able to use my HMGW1070 again!!!
Thank you so much!

Has anyone been able to get a HMGW1070 working with Windows 7? The unknown devices (2) that come up when you plug in the device just will NOT see the device drivers that unpack during the install of 2_6_18.
I was hoping it was a "signed driver" issue, but have had no luck after hacking a signature.
I can see the device in the control panel (but it has the yellow error icon). It complains that the device drivers are not there. I then try searching through the c:\Program files (x86)\Motorola homesight\Motorola homesight\Drivers directory (the INF files ARE in there) but it just will not recognize them.
